This is our common bond.
It’s the singularity—the leaving-of-the-world-behind feeling—that we all get to experience when we are doing what we love outside. Or, perhaps, it’s the temporary rejection of our highly sanitized digital world. Whatever it is, as a team, we’ve dedicated ourselves to building a platform to showcase and propel the efforts of others–the internal drive to explore, discover, create, and excel.
This year I continue my lifelong quest to live more in the present–especially as it relates to my family–and to better control my thoughts and emotions, while accepting the inevitable roller coaster of starting a business and life’s daily grind. I am excited for Hence to promote the power of action sports and the outdoors as a vehicle for personal development and physical and mental well being.

In discussing our personal intentions, expectations, and goals for the year, we realized how serendipitous it was that we all ended up working together building this platform. Our outlooks for the year move in parallel with what we are working to create as a group—where we want to take Hence.
Finally freed from a long-term work commitment with a relatively narrow focus, this is the year I want to spend more time pursuing old and new passions alike, while being more connected to my friends and, most importantly, to the people I love. Through Hence, I see an open canvas that will help connect, inspire, and empower people to pursue their passions, promote their craft, and live their best lives.

We wouldn’t say that some of our brand tenets are more weighty than others, but these three particularly resonate with our team for 2023.
As we work to build a platform that brings together and highlights our community of artists, athletes, brands, creators, and storytellers, we are striving to write our own stories that we’ll be sharing for years to come.
My personal focus for 2023 is to stay emotionally grounded, physically active, and intellectually curious. At Hence we are endeavoring to set a new tone and feature an expanded aperture of must-tell stories through personal perspective, historical context, and thematic structure.

The connections we forge when we’re in the thick of it, pushing ourselves and braving the elements, is a critical force that drives us. But it’s also the timeless and deep connections that develop and grow at the trailheads, in the line-ups, at the skateparks, on the wall, at the summits and ridge lines, and traveling through the towns and countryside in between.
What we are building at Hence is a lens into the real lives of others and a platform for creativity and self actualization. This year I want to spend more time listening to and learning from those who inspire me—seeking out, and fully appreciating the activities, experiences, and relationships that feed my soul.

Modern life has rendered us blind to the line between getting shit done and being chained down by our commitments. Balance is harder to find—but we are actively, consciously chasing it. We strive, as individuals, as a group, and as a business to find that balance. To embrace the weight of our world with two feet set squarely beneath us. To be more present to ourselves and our families.
Post the hecticness of the last couple years, my intentions for the year are crystal clear—better express my gratitude for family and friends, while being less of a hermit and getting outside much more often. For me, Hence is an opportunity to compel others through powerful words and imagery, and great design.

Both action and inaction bare crucial consequences for our day, our week, our month, our year, our lives. We came together with a common need to build, to do—to bring together like-minded individuals and communities—those compelled by a force that dares them, that drives them to take that first step or leap, time and time again—damn the consequences.

My focus for the year is to become more steadfast in practicing my daily ritual of setting intentions, and engaging in spiritual mediation and other soul-enriching activities. I see Hence as a platform that can serve as a force multiplier for personal growth and change.
