Hence celebrates the personal development, community building, and restorative nature of adventure sports, creative endeavors, and outdoor recreation through publishing and celebrating storytellers.
We are currently looking for staff writers.
Writers who can dive deep on both new and familiar topics, and create thought provoking articles with fresh perspectives. Writers who are able to conduct thoughtful interviews and weave them into a compelling narrative. Writers who can create stories from their own experiences, trials and tribulations, and overcoming of obstacles.
In short, we are looking for storytellers obsessed with adventure sports, creative expression, the outdoors, and the written word.
Your responsibilities
Your role as a Hence staff writer will include:
- Conducting interviews with brands, personalities, subject matter experts (“SME’s”) and community leaders.
- Writing cohesive, succinct, and engaging articles and website content.
- Writing social media, email, and other brand content, as needed.
Who you are
- You are passionate about being active in the outdoors and the outdoor community, the environment, and personal development.
- You have 2-3 years of experience within journalism, marketing, literature, education,or similar fields.
- You’re experienced in writing long form articles, short features, and conducting interviews.
- You’re meticulous. Whether it be a well-placed comma, a pixel-perfect design, or clear communication, you sweat the details.
- You seek feedback. You’re eager to learn new things to grow and improve your skills.
- You believe in punctuality. Deadlines are not optional for you.
- You’re an intellectually curious, critical thinker. Time flies by as you find yourself researching interesting topics or finding creative ways to solve a problem.
- You’re process-oriented. You try to be as efficient as possible, usually by creating checklists and systems. You are always looking for ways to improve a process.
- You have a bias toward action. You don’t shy away from making the best decision at the moment, knowing that you can iterate, and course correct as necessary.
- You’re flexible and agile, and comfortable learning on the fly. You realize that things change and often don’t work out perfectly, so you do what needs to be done and keep moving forward.
- You’re great at working independently. You’re comfortable setting and achieving your own goals, and good at communicating what you’re working on. You don’t need or want to be micromanaged, and you don’t depend on stress or high-pressure environments to get stuff done.
